The Johns Hopkins Internal Medicine Board Review (Johns Hopkins Internal Medical Board Review)

Redonda Miller, Stephen Sisson, Bimal Ashar
    Mosby | ISBN: 0323018602 | 2003-12-12 | djvu (ocr) | 992 pages | 13.31 Mb

Here's a concise, yet comprehensive review tool for certification or recertification in Internal Medicine. Written by expert contributors from the distinguished Johns Hopkins faculty, it efficiently summarizes all of the information that readers are most likely to encounter on the exam-and then helps them to assess and hone their mastery of the material. * Coverage encompasses all of the latest topics in the field, including a timely chapter on bioterrorism.
    * Meticulously crafted case-style study questions follow each chapter-hundreds in all.
    * The correct answer is provided for every question, as well as an explanation of why that answer is correct.
    * An 8-page full-color dermatology insert helps readers to prepare for questions about various skin conditions.
    * An enclosed bonus CD-ROM provides 500 additional practice questions and several timed exams... offering users a realistic simulation of the exam experience.
Summary: Excellent Book but crappy service by warehouse deal
    Rating: 5
Book itself from what i have heard is excellent, but warehousedeals service was crappy to say the least, the code for web access for the multiple choice questions inside the book had already been used up by people at warehouse deals, I had to return the book and request refund
    Summary: Online simulation helpful
    Rating: 4
I bought this book but didn't get a chance to read it before the ABIM exam. However, I was able do to about 1/5 of the questions from the online simulation. I thought the online simulation was helpful. The format is a little awkward and nothing like the actual exam, but I distinctly remember a few questions on the actual exam that were very similar to questions from the simulation. I have to credit the online simulation with getting me at least 2 extra questions right on the ABIM.
Summary: Not quite what I expected
    Rating: 3
My opinion might not be quite fair because I was not going through the whole book but looked up (proofed) some "high yield" topics instead, usually important for the board exam. One example is "typical pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis" and I could not find the right info. That's why I sent this book back. My experience with the ABIM Exam is that you not only have to have the right amount of facts handy but also be able to differentiate between very similiar disease presentations, and that all in very short time. This is a tricky situation, especially for non native speakers (I am german). For board exam preparation you need a book that focuses exactly on these factors and at the same time giving you the right amount of facts . As far as I can tell the MKSAP and the MedStudy IM Board Review are the only ones that can give you that. Both about 400$ each!
    Summary: Two thumbs up!
    Rating: 5
Amazing book! Definitely a must-have for anyone interested in internal medicine. Highly recommend! Thorough, beautifully-organized, and extremely well-written! Get this book....You won't be disappointed!
    Summary: Extremely helpful BOOK
    Rating: 5
Excellent review book, covers 95% of topics and could be done in a resonable time, make easy reading.
    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
